What happened to BSF personnel in Imphal

Security personnel in Manipur were taken to hospital on 15 October after experiencing nausea and vomiting following a meal. An early PTI dispatch reported 75 Border Security Force personnel and three civilian drivers receiving care at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal; a later agency update put the affected BSF count at 84.

Why the initial patient counts differ

The different totals should be read as developing figures rather than treated as two separate episodes. Hospital sources said the initially admitted patients were stable. Food-safety and disease-surveillance teams collected samples to determine the cause, which was still suspected food poisoning at the time of initial publication.

Tests and investigation still required

The final cause should depend on laboratory and official investigation results. Reports should avoid naming a particular dish or supplier as definitively responsible until the evidence supports that conclusion.
