ECDC figures show more than 9,000 cases
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control reported that the Democratic Republic of the Congo had recorded 9,144 confirmed Ebola cases, including 4,410 related deaths, in data available by 13 October 2026. The outbreak involves the Bundibugyo virus and has affected multiple provinces. Those figures refer to cases and deaths reported during the outbreak, not deaths in one day.
Why infection control remains difficult
World Health Organization updates had already described spread into new health zones and an imported case in Kenya. Response teams face the difficult task of finding contacts, isolating suspected infections and delivering care in areas affected by instability and population movement.
What surveillance updates mean
Health agencies warn that case totals may be incomplete and that figures can change as new results arrive. People should consult public-health authorities for practical precautions; reporting must avoid suggesting a known exposure or infection in countries where no case has been confirmed.
