September wholesale inflation and fuel prices
IndiaтАЩs provisional wholesale price inflation reached 11.39% year on year in September 2026, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry reported on 14 October. The previous monthтАЩs reading was 9.92%. Fuel and power inflation was 25.85%, while manufactured products and primary articles also recorded elevated increases.
How WPI differs from retail inflation
Wholesale inflation measures prices earlier in the supply chain and is not identical to the retail Consumer Price Index. Higher costs can eventually reach consumers, but pass-through varies by product, business decisions and demand.
Why future readings matter
The figures are provisional and follow a newer index base year of 2022тАУ23. Their significance depends on whether increases persist over subsequent months and how the central bank balances inflation and growth risks.
